As a part of the Camden Public Library’s Discover History Month, Walsh History Center director Ken Gross will present “A Visual History of the Megunticook River” on Tuesday, October 17 at 6:30 PM. Ken’s presentation will cover a brief introduction to the glacial history of the region that allowed the river’s energy to be harvested as power for the early settlers and entrepreneurs of the region. Ken will introduce each of the historic mills, relying on the 1856 and 1875 detailed maps of Camden as well as the extraordinarily detailed Sanborn Insurance Maps from 1888-1923.
This is a hybrid program and will take place in-person in the Picker Room as well as on Zoom. To attend virtually register here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_9N_muXfmRYm-nfJ8sMRp_Q
This talk coincides with the month-long exhibit of the same topic in the Picker Room Gallery, on view from October 3 to October 30. For Discover History Month each October, the Camden Public Library draws on the photographs, prints, and other resources in the library’s Walsh History Center to create an exhibit portraying different facets of Camden’s history.
