The Camden Public Library welcomes author Amy Fradel for a talk about her book Four Acres Under Slavnik: A Slovenian Migration Story on Tuesday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Picker Room.
What began as a personal exploration of Fradel’s family’s immigrant history became a deep dive into global issues surrounding immigration, racism, and the rise of authoritarian regimes that the world still grapples with today.
It is also an intimate story of ordinary people facing the challenges of life in the new country and of those striving to survive in the old country during cataclysmic times.
A traveler, nurse practitioner, and writer, Amy Fradel lives in Maine with her husband, Arch Davis, and visits with her extended family in Slovenia often. She is the 2022 winner of the Slovenian Union of America Literary Competition. She recently presented her book to the Slovenian Migration Institute in Ljubljana, as well as at the Universities of Primorska and Nova Gorica.
This program is a part of the Camden Public Library’s “Discover History Month” series of history-themed programs, events, and exhibits.
